Ariel had ambivalent feelings about tonight; on the one hand she was happy that she and her father got to celebrate his birthday on the actual date and she prepared a nice meal for them and a lavish birthday cake (she really was enjoying her new baking skills), but on the other hand she would have enjoyed watching the Lacrosse game, especially since she managed to make some new friends – some of which were even on the team! But of course, family always comes first (especially when family consisted of just her and her father) and so she tried to make the best of their evening together.
Everything was going splendidly, and her father kept complimenting her on her cooking skills, but when Ariel went to kitchen to bring the cake she received a text message from Lydia informing her of a victory party along with the appropriate address. An excited smile appeared across her face, which her father obviously noticed once she returned with his cake, and when he asked her Ariel told him about the party. Her father was actually happy and wanted her to attend the party – he was just happy Ariel was making new friends (it really wasn’t that hard to make her father happy, especially since Ariel really wasn’t a problematic teenage girl). Her father said they could wrap things up but Ariel insisted they finished dessert first. After all, a birthday wasn’t a birthday without a proper cake!
Her father told her to leave the dishes to him and go to the party, and Ariel wasn’t about to argue with that. She looked at the full-length mirror before she left, making sure she looked presentable and her makeup was alright and then she took the keys off the hanger, bid her father goodnight and joked, telling him not to wait up, he told her to drive safe (not bothering on telling her not to drink because they both knew if she was driving there was no way she would be drinking) and with that Ariel was out of the house and in the car. She put the address in the GPS and drove to the party.
When she arrived she noticed there were quite a few cars there already and there was no mistaking the sound of loud music emitting from the very large house in front of her. Her eyes opened up just a bit as she took everything in, locking her car as she made her way to the entrance. It was clear the party had started already, but she shrugged, figuring she was just "fashionably late". She entered the house to be greeted and her keys taken from her. It was a bit annoying to her since she was a responsible driver and wasn’t planning on drinking, but she didn’t want to start arguing, and overall it really was a good setting so she handed over her keys and walked further inside the house.
It was just as big inside as it looked on the outside, not to mention the space of the backyard with the fire pit and pool. She didn’t know the boy who lived here – which did make her feel a bit uneasy, sort of like a trespasser, but given the amount of people here she didn’t think he would mind. And plus, Lydia invited her. Speaking of Lydia, Ariel caught a glimpse of her dancing with Vincent on the dance floor. she decided it would probably be best if she didn’t interrupt them and she could always greet them later on. She grinned at the sight of them together, thinking that they looked cute together (and also amused herself thinking that their babies would be gorgeous – but that really was getting ahead of everything). She chuckled at her own thoughts as she looked around, wondering if there was anyone else she knew at the party.
She weaved her way through the hundreds of students, most of whom she didn’t know, which honestly made her feel a bit uncomfortable, but she decided she wouldn’t let that bring her down. She ended up at a table filled with numerous drinks – both alcoholic and not – and while she felt like she could use something strong given her slight discomfort she held it together and opted for a soda instead. Plus, once you had a cup in hand no one could really know what you were drinking so as long as she had a cup in hand no one would bother her much about not drinking. She spotted Ayame talking with a guy and that made her wonder if perhaps Leo was around. She glanced around but couldn't spot him. She shrugged to herself and decided, again, not to bother the two. Ariel really wasn’t one to just barge into a conversation, especially when she only knew half of the participants.
Instead she hung back, leaned against a wall and watched the party unfold. She was pretty impressed with the construction – first off the house was huge (as already noted, but definitely noteworthy enough to mention again) and secondly it was packed with students, Ariel wasn’t even sure they were all from Beacon Hills High School. Thirdly, the music was quite good, and there seemed to be a lot of drinks and food offered. And that’s without her even stepping outside and exploring that part of the house. She wondered who lived here and what they did and so she looked at the walls instead of the people dancing and chatting. She didn’t find anything that revealed much however, reasoning that whoever lived here probably stowed the precious personal belongings somewhere safe.
Every now and then someone would bump into her – some ignored it and some even acknowledged her and asked if she were okay or even started up a small talk but it was usually short as they were headed to greet a friend or something of the sort. Ariel didn’t mind that at all, she was mostly amused by it. She really was lucky in the fact that she felt at ease in her own skin, and she always preferred observing rather than being in the center of attention so that was fine with her. Plus, she figured if anyone wanted to actually converse with her she wasn’t that intimidating so whatever happens so be it. And for the moment she didn’t want to bother the few friends she had as they seemed occupied.
