After another long shift at Beacon Hills Memorial Hospital, Melissa McCall was returning yet again to her place of work. She stepped back through the automatic doors, waving to the co-workers who were leaving just as she was entering. She had worked with them earlier in the morning. She was coming in for her night sift. They all smiled at her, but they could see the pity behind their smiles. She needed the money, but none of them knew that for a fact. They just assumed so since she was single with a son. She could see the upsetting looks that they had as she moved by them and made her way into the break room. She put all of her things away and tossed on the top to her scrubs. She attached her name tags out of her locker before she stretched and looked at herself in the mirror. She wore a little make up, mostly to cover up the bags under her eyes. She damned everything before she shut the door to her locker and headed out.
Melissa looked at the board which told her where she would be going for the day and if surgery, which doctors and nurses that she would be working with. She was surprised to see that she would be working the front desk. Her eyebrows rose before she walked over to the front desk and sat down. She said hello to the woman next to her and smiled. The two made idle small talk as Melissa organized the desk in front of her. Whoever had worked before her was a bit of a slob so she decided to organize it, while chatting aimlessly. She clocked on in the computer and then looked up to see if there was anyone around who needed her help. Strangely enough, the waiting room seemed empty. She plopped down and turned towards the woman next to her, talking to her aimlessly about nothing once again until someone walked into the waiting room, gaining both of their attentions. ”Hi there. Can I help you?” She asked curiously.Font]
