Another afternoon off in two weeks? It was like some sort of miracle. Even so, Melissa couldn’t yet spend any quality time with her son. With the mysterious deaths around town that were clearly by a werewolf, he had his hands full. He had talked to her about it, wondering if it was Peter who had done it. Melissa, while she was still somewhat shocked with him returning from the dead and dating her to get to Scott, had defended him. He had been trying to turn over a new leaf, or so Melissa had seen. He had been more helpful during pack meetings, according to Stiles and even had been nice to him when he bumped in to him the other day, which Melissa found quite shocking. Still, if Stiles claimed that he seemed to be trying to turn over a new leaf, Melissa would believe him, just as she would believe Scott. Both boys were like her children and as such, she trusted both of them equally.
So, with Scott busy, here Melissa was, looking down at the smallest list of groceries she had ever seen. She ran a hand through her curly brown hair as she searched for the cheapest loaf of bread that she could find. Shopping on a budget was something that she was used to, on a budget this small? Not so much. Living with a teenage boy that had the appetite of a ravenous lion wasn’t easy and it wasn’t easy when you didn’t have much money. Sure, she got a lot of money from working her extra shifts at the hospital but that didn’t mean she had enough to go out and go crazy. She had bills to pay, she had Scott to take care of, and she had Raphael to think about. Her ex-husband had offered to help her pay for things, but Melissa’s pride was in the way. She refused, telling him that the two of them would be fine without his money. She knew it wasn’t charity, but it felt like it was.
Melissa let out a noise of triumph as she finally found the cheapest loaf of bread before she placed it into her grocery cart and headed down the aisle towards a place where she could grab some peanut butter and jelly and then some lunch meet. She would also need to buy ground beef, the cheapest of the meats so she could make things like pasta and whatnot. She had most of the supplies at home, stocked up but things didn’t always work out the way she wanted them to. Just as she rounded the corner of the aisle to the peanut butter, she ran in to someone with her cart. She gasped. ”Oh my goodness, I am so sorry!” She exclaimed, her tanned cheeks flushing with embarrassment. ”Are you alright?” She asked, glad that it wasn’t like before when she had a full cart of groceries.
