Is choosing a sofa really that hard? (Lydia and Derek)

Derek parked his Toyota FJ Cruiser perfectly as he pulled up to Beacon Hill’s Mall/Shopping district. It was not like most malls confined into a single building, but was open aired with buildings littered with stores on either side of the walk way that cut through the most part of it. He turned the key and the engine died slowly as it rumbled into silence and he removes the key and pocketed it and grabbed his wallet before inspecting his appearance in his rear view mirror and bared his teeth in a mock growl for his own amusement. His hair was styled up perfectly into its typical spiky form and his stubble was perfectly trimmed. Derek opened the door, closed it and removed his keys and locked up his car before pocketing the keys and he moved with a saunter to the walk way and start looking from store to store like he was a man on a mission err make that a wolf on a mission.

Derek was planning t turn the loft into a home… one that reflected his preferred Stylish taste which might scream of a gay man. Not that he had anything against gay men as he liked people for who they where and not there genitals all though lately he seemed to lean towards the same sex these days due to his sufficient scarring and PTSD developed thanks to his experiences with Paige, Kate and Jennifer. He did not regret Paige as she did not use him, but he had caused her death and he had the eyes to prove it. But with Kate and Jenifer they used him for their own schemes. Kate burned down his childhood home and murdered his family and Jennifer used him to gain power for revenge. Both practically raped him, more so on Jennifer’s part as she may have whacked him with a love spell. So safe to say he was wary of strange woman he met and it showed to any of the people that knew him closely. He looked up and spied Lydia Martin… the girl who Stiles had a long plan to get her to marry him and Scott’s pack’s banshee. He also noticed the new store called “Mystic Moon” and his nose crinkled at the smell of incense. It was not an unpleasant smell, just very strong. However he noticed Lydia’s hypnotized form and he grew worried. You could say that he cared for the females in Scott’s pack as they had earned his trust. So he walked up to Lydia and looked at the spot she was staring at, seeing the decorative motif of a seven pointed star eclipsing a full moon, he also noticed the closed sign with a hastily written note stuck to the door saying “Sorry had to step out to stalk and stop parental figures from eating junk” and he rose an eyebrow before reaching to shake Lydia out of her trance.

“Lydia? Is something wrong? Are you alright?”

Derek raised one eyebrow in confusion when he listened to Lydia explain the reason behind her trance. She stated that she got a weird vibe from the store "Mystic Moon" and he scowled as he noticed her seem to withdraw into herself as if to be listening t the ghostly whispers that haunt her every move. he looked back at the store and peered into the window and only saw a lot of books for the most part when Lydia stated that it was like the store was speaking to her. Derek did not find it disturbing as he had known Lydia to be very trust worthy when it came to her intuition which bordered on a supernatural level due to her being a Banshee. He nodded when she said it was crazy cause stores can't talk and she stated she just had a weird feeling about the store. He pinched the bridge of his nose before turning to look at her. "Stores may not talk, but people do, who said its the store that is giving off the "vibe", but what was inside instead?"

Derek noticed her gaze turned back to the store with curiosity as if she was trying to figure out some puzzling mathematics problem and he growled under his breath, as he was not sure if he liked this... but he admitted what ever was behind the store's weird vibe was not bad. In fact he had a gut instinct that it was something that could be trusted completely.

"Regardless that puzzle will remained unsolved as the store is closed" Derek pointed at the door and the written note, alongside the closed sign.

Derek watched on with a pinched look on his face as Lydia kept on looking into the window front of the store. He figured she was figuring out what to do with what ever she was sensing. He admitted he would have tried to discreetly sniff out what was so familiar about the place that he could not place, but with that heavy smell of incense and tea his sniffer was not working as well as it should be, in fact he sneezed loudly due the intensity of the incense when he tried to scent the air, it may have sounded a little like a puppy sneezing in a comical way. He heard her sigh in a lamenting way when she exclaimed that it was to bad it was closed and that she was really curious.

Derek noticed her sudden shift in demeanor that screamed danger abort mission and he scowled saw he turn her gaze on him. He heard her question him asking why he was the at the mall and that it doesn’t really seem like it was way to spend a Saturday morning… proves what Lydia did not know as he would rather be out and about doing things then stewing in his own guilt and sorrow, either that or reading… most likely one of the manga books from his stash that ironically survived the fire he even if he had the right equipment might try to do some gaming like he did back before the fire, but he had not touched a single video game since the fire… maybe he should get some for promoting pack togetherness? He slid one of his own eyebrows up high and crossed his arms before gruffly grunting out the words quietly.

“Shopping for things for the Loft…”

Derek may have frowned when he heard Lydia ask if he wanted help as he was not sure if it was a good thing to have her help or not. On one point Lydia probably would be able to get him a good enough deal on some of the things he might purchase but part of him dreaded the possibility of her and his ideals of style clashing, considering he had the whole dark, gloomy and tortured bachelor going for him. He figured it would be best to just let the girl help him, so she won’t force her way into it, lets face it that girl had a way with words and Derek thought that Lydia was about ten times scary then most things that go bump in the night, but if she was handle right she was passive as any human can be compared to a werewolf.

He clenched his fists as he heard her say that she had been told she was fashionable or whatever and he shrugged as she sipped at her coffee. He watched her look around and he scented the noticing the scent of possible loneliness coming off her and he figured most of Scott’s pack had not been spending much time together lately, in fact he could not recall the last time Scott held a pack meeting at his loft, he was kind of glad for that as it was his territory and not Scott’s and it did make him want to go into a pissing match with the juvenile True Alpha… he still had the instincts of an Alpha werewolf so you could not blame him when it happened. Derek nodded and grunted gruffly.

“Alright… but I have last say on any products that are looked at, alright?”

Derek did happen to notice how Lydia smelt like sorrow, most likely over losing Allison he reasoned to himself and perhaps Stiles suddenly turning into a hermit had something to do with it as well. The poor girl most likely had nothing to do other than study or primp her nails all day long, if Cora was not missing he would encourage his younger sister to spend time with Lydia, but until he found Cora that was moot. At least he could keep her company for awhile. If he had wolf ears, lets just say they might have perked up when Lydia mentioned that he had full control over what goes into his loft and he liked the idea of doing something with the whole dark and brooding thing he is doing as he felt it might add to the chances to find a potential male partner and hopefully scare off any women who might come a knocking on his door.

However he cringed slightly when she linked arms with him, but he stopped when he thought this might scare away any one who might flirt with him while shopping which was both a good and bad thing as he did not mind the men flirting with him so much but since Jennifer the issues that where laid down with the ground work with Kate came crashing into place and there was no way in hell that he could romantically or intimately trust a woman ever again as the damage had been done. Luckily he was sort of an equal opportunity type of guy except it was less about what parts his partner had and more what they where like inside. So Derek let Lydia steer him to where ever she felt would be the best first stop.

“Yes it is my loft and I would like to stay that way, but what ‘s been up with you Lydia? Other than the… you know stuff”

Derek smelt the turmoil boiling and roiling off of the red headed girl and he clearly could see that the last few months had brought its toll on the girl as well. His eyes narrowed and he tried to discern what was bothering her when she seemed to try to deflect him off the point. However not going to happen as Werewolves where proficient in sniffing out things that where hidden and they could hear when people lie as well. He listened very carefully as she said “What do you mean? I am acing chemistry if that’s what you mean” and he grumbled grumpily at the obvious lie and deflection.

Derek pinched the bridge of his nose with his free hand and groaned… his life. So he gave Lydia the Stiles glare, the one that he usually gives Stiles when Stiles is being stupid. But in this case its saying ‘do you think I am stupid, Lydia?’ He waited to see if she would open up but when she did not he grunted. “its fine if you don’t want to tell me, but clearly something or a whole lot of things are bothering you and clearly you have no one to talk to lately” He gave her a look that screamed I hit the nail on the head didn’t I?. he continued to let Lydia drag him by the arm and wondered when they would enter a store but he hoped he could help her vent some what as the poor girl needed it.

Derek let out a very low wounded canine like noise that most people would not have heard when that could be described as a whine when he saw her look down and smelt the turmoil intensify further. His eyes widened slightly as he saw the tears start to fall. He heard her whisper as clear as day when she said it was hard and that she used to talk to Allison about everything and then she went a head and blamed herself for Allison’s death and he sighed heavily before looking her in the eyes as he remember his own guilt, of how he killed Paige, of how he did not stop Peter from convincing Ennis from biting Paige which led to him killing her when she rejected the bite and how he got his family killed weighed down on his shoulders.

“I understand how you feel Lydia… but for what its worth its not your fault Allison died at all”

Derek followed her gaze as they entered the Furniture store and saw her start glancing at Sofas and he tried to see if there was any made from top quality leather and kept an eye out for any other furniture that might be useful. Maybe he should get a new bed while he was at it? For a fresh start as that bed still did contain Jennifer’s smell and no matter how hard he tried her smell was not fading fast enough. He also figured he would need a place to stay when he organized the contractors to fix up his loft so it had more rooms on the second floor and to convert the lower level into a more living area/kitchen area. Derek unhooked his arm from hers easily and clasped her left shoulder with the arm she had linked with hers previously in a sign of silent comfort as he understood how she felt, more than she would ever know.
