Dinner Delivery

Melissa had been having another day at the hospital, nothing special was going on. Thankfully nothing supernatural had been going on, which was awesome. She didn’t need that sort of stuff happening for a little while. She needed to focus on her seriously human patients so she was able to save them and do what was best for them. So all in all, the day had been pretty successful, even if it wasn’t over yet. She hoped and prayed for it to be over soon, but alas, she still had a few hours, which was unfortunate. She needed to get home and hopefully see her son. He wasn’t around as often as she would have liked anymore and now it wasn’t all Stiles’ fault like it used to be. It was either because of Kira or this supernatural stuff or school or work. It wasn’t ideal, but she did what she could to be supportive.

The nurse was making her rounds, checking on her patients when someone ran right into her, causing her clip board to clatter to the floor. Melissa jumped back a little, wanting to make sure that the person was okay, but it seemed they wanted the same as the young blonde girl apologized and moved forward to retrieve the chart from the floor. She handed it to her, smiling as the girl kept apologizing and shook her head a little as she took the clipboard. She kept saying sorry and shook her head, laughing. “You’re fine, really. It’s not that big of a deal. It’s not like I haven’t been run into, or run over before,” Melissa joked with a laugh and a shake of her head. She noticed the food in her hands. “Bringing someone dinner?” She asked her, grinning and trying to get the girl to calm down.

Melissa gazed at the young blonde who had visibly calmed down and relaxed, which was good. She was glad that she had, especially when the girl smiled back at her. Smiling meant that everyone was good or that everything would be good since, well, she didn’t seem worried about anyone being hurt or upset anymore. Melissa knew what that felt like so she was glad that she was able to relax and, possibly, go and give her relative their dinner that she seemed to be holding.

There was but a moment later that the girl answered Melissa’s question, saying that she was indeed. She looked down at the bag a moment before she looked back up at Melissa, saying that she was bringing her father dinner or else he would starve himself. The nurse chuckled. “My son only brings me dinner when he wants something,” she joked before she paused. “Who is your father?” She asked curiously, sure that she would know who he was since the hospital was so small.

The girl seemed very familiar to Melissa, but she didn’t voice her thoughts on it. Instead she focused on the girl who was apparently bringing someone their dinner. The girl said that the man’s name was David. Well that doesn’t help, she thought but didn’t say anything as the girl quickly recovered, saying that she was looking for Dr. David Knight, the new ER attending. She stated that they were new in town. Melissa nodded her head a little in understanding. She paused, thinking back to see if she had seen David Knight, the new ER attending. She had heard quite a few of the other nurses talking about how cute the new doc in the hospital was, but she hadn’t been looking to be honest. She had been relishing in the fact that she had normal patients. Curse Beacon Hills and its supernatural nonsense.

Ariel was apparently the girl’s name before she asked Melissa if she had always worked there. There was a bit of a pause before Melissa spoke. “Well my name is Melissa McCall, I’m one of the nurses here at the hospital and yes, for the most part, I have always worked here,” she stated with a nod of her head before she turned. “C’mon, let’s see if we can find your dad,” she said with a smile as she motioned for the girl to follow her. She headed for the clear board that showed where doctors and nurses were supposed to be in the hospital. “So where did you live before you moved here?” Melissa asked, trying to make small talk as they headed for the board. As a mother and a nurse, her inquisitive nature was hard to deter.

Being a nurse for so long, Melissa knew how people relaxed when you asked them questions about themselves. They were typically easier to answer since, well, no one knows you better than you. So, it’s what Melissa did when she had to give shots or get readings. She could easily talk to people while she checked them up, making sure to grab their vitals and everything else that she may need, depending on the situation of that person. She would talk to them on their way to surgery or just while they were sitting in the check-up room waiting for their doctor. She knew what it was like to be nervous, but she did what she could to make them calm.

The young girl told Melissa that they were from Evanston, Illinois. The woman nodded her head as Ariel said that they lived in Beacon Hills before that so they were knew, but also old in town. Melissa laughed a little and nodded her head before the girl said that it was weird and shrugged her shoulders. “Yeah, I know that when I first moved here, I was still rather young. I moved here for a man if you can believe it,” she said with a laugh and a shake of her head. “Here’s a piece of advice for you, you never move anywhere for a man unless he’s your father or your son,” she told her with a grin, thinking of her own son.

The thoughts of Scott left her mind thought as she arrived at the clear board with names on it. She looked for David’s before she finally found it. “Ah ha! David Knight is currently in surgery, but we’ll go by and see if it’s over or not,” she said. The hospital was just about empty so her heading out wouldn’t be too bad if she would remove herself from the hallways and help Ariel get to where her father was.

Melissa was sure that the piece of information probably confused the girl, but she did well in playing along. She told Melissa that she would do as she suggested. That was good and Melissa hoped that she took her words to heart. After all, it wasn’t like that was something that she shared with everyone. To be honest, she wasn’t sure why she shared it with the girl. Perhaps it was because in the back of her mind, she remembered hearing the nurses talking about how the “hot new doctor” was single. Perhaps that was why. Why he was single, she didn’t know and she wouldn’t ask. It wasn’t her place to do such a thing so she wouldn’t mention it, especially given her own martial issues.

Ariel thanked Melissa as the two made their way towards the room where the surgery was taking place. She would make sure that there was nothing too gory so the girl wouldn’t be scarred, assuming she didn’t like that sort of thing. Even Melissa seemed to have a bit of an issue with it, but she dealt with it. After all, her son was a werewolf. What couldn’t she handle at this point? Not that she didn’t love Scott. He was her pride and joy which Melissa was more than happy to mention as Ariel asked how many children she had. Melissa smiled. “Just one. I have my son, Scott,” she told her with a proud smile and a proud tone of voice. She loved who he was and what he had become, how he had survived and persevered after everything that had happened in his life.

Ariel asked Melissa if Scott went to Beacon Hills High School. Melissa smiled and nodded her head. “He does! He’s the captain of the Lacrosse team,” she said with a bright and proud smile. Melissa loved her son more than anything. She loved what he did and the person that he had become. She was proud of him for becoming a True Alpha, an Alpha that proved whom he was and how much of an all-around wonderful person he was. After all there weren’t that many True Alphas in existence. It was why so many werewolves came to Beacon Hills. Whether it was because they wanted him dead, they wanted him to join their pack, or they wanted to join his pack, it was something that would no doubt keep drawing wolves to Beacon Hills, which could be considered both good and bad.

The walk through the hospital wasn’t a long one and soon enough the duo arrived at the surgery room. She looked through the window and smiled before she turned to Ariel. “It looks like your dad’s just finishing up so he should be out soon enough,” she told her with a smile. From what she could see, he was stitching up the last bit of the man’s leg from his stomach surgery. She didn’t know the details, but she figured that it was a surgery related to his stomach, it was around there where the stitches were. She hoped it wasn’t an appendix burst. She placed her hand on her side just thinking about that pain and was not comfortable.

Melissa had been so absorbed in her love and her pride in Scott that she hadn’t noticed any change in Ariel’s demeanor when she gloated about her son. She looked over at Ariel, smiling back at her as she stated that Scott being the lacrosse team captain was cool. She nodded her head. “I’d say so since he barely even made the team with his best friend their freshman year,” she told her, laughing a bit and shaking her head. Scott’s asthma had made things difficult for him when it came to lacrosse, but after he had been bitten, his asthma had disappeared and he was able to be faster, stronger, and more focused which made him excel at lacrosse. At first, Melissa just thought that he had practiced a lot over the summer and had paid off, later she realized that wasn’t it. Still, it hadn’t made her less proud. Even with Scott’s improved abilities, he was fair in the game and didn’t take control like most would have. She was sure that was one reason why he had been a True Alpha.

Ariel thanked Melissa, saying that she appreciated it and Melissa smiled over at her, nodding her head. “You’re welcome. Now, I’d love to stay and chat, but I do have patients that I have to see. It was lovely meeting you, Ariel, and I hope your dad enjoys his dinner. I’m sure I’ll be seeing you around if you keep bringing him dinner,” she told her with a bright smile before she dismissed herself and headed back to her wing. It was around the time she would need to make rounds on her patients again, so she hoped nothing major had happened while she was gone. She was sure if something did happen, she would be called over the intercom or paged or something, but she hadn’t been so she assumed everything was fine. After all, she hadn’t minded the bit of a break that she had gotten.
