Chemistry and Lacrosse

Ariel had been quite helpful and Ayame had been rather surprised of the stance that she had taken on the matter. Still, she hoped that in the end what Ariel said was right. After all, Ayame really had found a fantastic friend in Stiles before he suddenly snapped at her. Grant it, in a way, she had sort of invaded his mind. She had noticed he wasn’t sleeping and she and Scott had found the sleeping pills in his bedroom and they started to worry about him. So, Ayame tried to give him little gifts, therapeutic items that would hopefully help him sleep that weren’t medications that he could potentially become addicted to. Although, Ayame was more worried about them not working and not so much him getting addicted, but she digressed, and he got angry with her anyway.

Losing a friend like that was hard, but she tried to make herself force it into the back of her mind as she looked over at Ariel, saying that she didn’t need to worry about asking and that it made total sense why she would ask. She then said that she was glad that she could help seeing that the two of them had just met. Ayame joined Ariel in a laugh, but still felt a little weird about it. Mostly because, as Ariel had mentioned, the two had just met, but if Ariel didn’t mind then Ayame felt that she didn’t mind either. So, she tried her best to focus on the friendship that she was hoping would blossom from this interaction. Not a close friendship of course, but a friendship enough for Ayame to be able to hang out with someone when she was training with Peter or hanging out with Leo, especially since Scott sort of had to align himself with Stiles.

Ariel spoke again, saying that she hoped Stiles would come to his senses soon enough and stop putting her through the difficult situation. Ayame smiled at her. “Me too,” she said with a grin before she shook her head. “Anyway, how long have you been here in Beacon Hills?” She asked, hoping to change the subject on to something that wasn’t about Ayame. So, she asked about Ariel, which she knew would be easy enough to talk about, at least for her, probably not for Ariel. It was always a bit awkward being new and having to introduce yourself. Ayame had been there and done that when she moved in with her aunt those years ago.

Ariel seemed hesitant, but Ayame just wrote it off as she wasn’t sure where to start. So, she waited patiently for Ariel to reply. When she did, it made her smile. She nodded her head as the girl told her that it had been about a week in Beacon Hills. She then said that she had lived there before so technically it was more than that. Ayame nodded her head, not wanting to pry too much. She knew how that felt and she wasn’t about to ask if Ariel didn’t want to share. Ayame knew that no one wanted to talk about everything so she wouldn’t ask, especially since she didn’t want Ariel to ask why she moved to Beacon Hills in the first place since, well, it would be clear she wasn’t a native to the small town. So hopefully Ariel wouldn’t ask her, but something told her she would and she would confess something she had done fairly well at keeping to herself, save for when she spoke to Stiles.

The girl then said that everything felt different anyway so she still felt like she was new in town. Ayame nodded her head, smiling over at her. “Yeah, I know that feeling. I moved here a few years ago myself,” she told her, also not going in to details. “So what do you do recreationally?” She asked her curiously before she paused. “Or I suppose the normal way to phrase that question would be, “what do you do for fun?” but I’m weird,” she told her, laughing a bit and shaking her head. Ayame was so odd. This was one of the many reasons why she didn’t make friends. Thank heavens she hadn’t been this weird with Stiles and they were able to bond over superhero movies and comic books and other such things.

Ayame smiled over at Ariel as she asked her where she was from originally. The boxer had yet to be asked such a question. It was sad, but true. She was sure Stiles was the only person to ask her. “I’m from Sacramento,” she stated. She wasn’t sure what else she would want her to know. “What about you?” She asked curiously, hoping that the question wouldn’t be too intrusive. After all, she figured that whatever Ariel asked, Ayame could ask as well. After all, changes are if you didn’t want others to ask certain questions, you tended to avoid those questions and ask the ones that you would want people to ask you. It was a safe way to do things and to be honest, a nice way to use psychology in your favor since not everyone knew what questions to ask and often would say, “Oh and you?”

Ariel seemed to find that Ayame’s question was odd, which was a reason why she led her to ask something else. The girl nodded her head before asking her what “normal” was anyway. She said that weird was much better, making Ayame laugh and feel a little more at ease. She then said, in not so many words, that what she did was pretty weird as well. She said that she loved working out and training. Ayame nodded her head, grinning before she said that she also liked “regular stuff” such as reading. Ayame laughed. “I box, my father taught me. And apparently I’m so good I teach classes at the rec center,” she stated with a chuckle, not trying to be arrogant or egotistical. “But also I garden,” she told her with a smile. She did that with her aunt, but she wouldn't bring up family. She wasn't sure how okay that was of a subject so she kept her mouth shut.

It was but a few moments later that Ariel told Ayame that she was from Evanston. Ayame nodded her head in response and tucked some of her hair behind her hear, grinning before she turned and look out back over the field. She paused a little bit, eying people across the way before she turned her attention back towards her new friend, who was grinning at her as she told her about her various forms on recreational activities. It was fun to see someone talk about the things that they liked doing outside of school, whether it was self-defense and fighting or reading books. Either way, Ayame knew what it was like to have activities that a lot people thought were weird, which was whatever in her mind, although she was glad to know that she found a kindred spirit in the aspect of self-defense or something of that general nature. It wasn’t as common as one would believe, especially since Beacon Hills was swarming with supernatural creatures and other stuff like that.

Ariel stated that her boxing was cool before she said that she had to teach her how to box, making Ayame laugh a little bit. “Sure! You just gotta make sure you either sign up for the class or wait until my classes are over so I can teach you privately,” she stated with a grin before the girl asked her about her gardening. She asked if she planted fruits and vegetables or more flowery type plants. He smiled over at her cautiously. “I plant several different kinds. I have fruits, vegetables, herbs, and several different flowers. My aunt mainly does flowers, though. Her hibiscus are extremely beautiful,” he told her, smiling over at her. Her aunt did have extremely beautiful plants and it was one of the reasons why she had decided to take up gardening. Well, that and the fact that she was a druid sort of made things go in that direction as well.

Ariel seemed extremely excited when Ayame mentioned different ways that the girls could do boxing together. She said that she definitely would before she asked Ayame a rather sensitive subject. She asked if Ayame’s father was a professional boxer. She smiled over at her, trying to hide any pain that the girl may have seen and nodded her head. “Yeah, dad was a professional boxer. He wasn’t known by too many people, but he was one,” she told her, smiling happily. She tried to make it seem like it was because he retired and he wasn’t dead…even…if he was. She would never be used to bringing up her parents or talking about their deaths. She had mentioned it to Stiles the day that Coach Finstock upset her, but that was because he had been nice enough to come out and see if she was okay, and bring her her backpack, which was nice. Still, she wasn’t about to confess the death of her parents to this girl…at least not yet.

The conversation topic of gardening was something that Ayame would much rather talk about, especially when related to her guardian, her aunt. Ariel asked her if her aunt lived there as well. Ayame nodded her head. “Yup! Her and my younger cousin, Mark,” she stated, grinning. She loved talking about her aunt and her cousin. “My aunt is a nurse at the hospital so she’s not home very often and usually Mark is over at a friend’s house,” she explained, not realizing until after she spoke that it would get Ariel to ask her about her parents. She mentally cursed herself for her foolishness and prepared to talk about what had happened. Apparently eventually was going to become “right now” which Ayame wasn’t all that pleased about, but she wasn’t about to lie abought it either.

Ayame looked over at the girl a moment as she asked her what a professional boxer did once he was retired. She then grinned, asking if he gardened as well. She smiled a little over at her a moment before her smile faded slightly. She wasn’t sure if she wanted to respond to such a subject. After all, it wasn’t like the girl enjoyed talking about the death of her parents. It wasn’t really something anyone really talked about to be honest. Even with her aunt and cousin, Ayame didn’t talk about it. It was something she never wanted to talk about with anyone, which may have been the first problem. Stiles was the first person that she opened up about it with and therefore she had grown close to him, the two had grown very close. Peter, on the other hand, knew nothing of her history and she preferred it kept that way. He didn’t ask about hers so she didn’t ask about his, which was nice. Plus, him being a werewolf was probably something that helped him decide whether or not family was a good topic for them to discuss.

Grant it, something told Ayame that she couldn’t not respond, especially when Ariel asked her if her parents lived with her. There was a pause, a brief pause, before Ayame took a deep breath and responded. “No, my parents don’t live with us.” She let out her breath that she had been holding. “They, um, were murdered several years ago,” she told her, not sure what else to say. In her mind there was nothing else to say. She was no doubt Ariel would feel awkward, probably sad, apologize for bringing it up and Ayame would have to tell her that it was fine. That’s what had happened after Coach Finstock had been told why she had stormed out of his classroom one day when he brought his coaching tactics into the classroom. It wasn’t pretty but he had laid off on yelling at her like he did the rest of the class. It made her feel special despite the whispers that no doubt went through the class after her storming out that one day.
