Second Chances

A long weary week had passed since the Derek had his argument with Lydia about his plans to bring back Laura to bring back balance. However since then he had serious reevaluated said plans, as while having the Hale back in some capacity would bring balance, it did not exactly need to be Laura spearing it at the head. It just needed to be a Hale Alpha that followed in the footsteps of Talia and Laura Hale and Derek knew that his Uncle Peter was unfit to be that Hale. His uncle was always a schemer seeking more power then he needed or deserved. Which left him or Cora up for the task. Whilst Cora was missing at the time being and he had no clue where she was at the present task he did not think Cora would be up for the task, even though she was a better choice then Peter. Derek did have experience being an Alpha even though he did a poor job at the time. At the time he was focused on preparing his pack for a task that would lead to their unfortunate demise. But if he could some how regain that spark of power he sacrificed to save his sister he would give that second chance to do things the right way and do his best to emulate his mother, elder sister and previous Hale alphas that had come before them. S he had spent his time since this epiphany reading what books on werewolf lore that he had seeking some hint of a clue of how to regain his alpha spark with out having to kill another alpha.

However said books that he had on hand did little to answer his questions. That left a few places where he could go to look for information. One he could always go to the clinic and trying to get some answers from Dr. Deaton but that was unlikely as he was missing in action and he did not fancy attempting to speak to his sister Marin Morell. There was also the chance his uncle knew something but that could back fire and his uncle would most likely use it to his own ends. So that left the Vault as his one and only option. The Hale Vault was hidden in one of the most inconvenient and yet convenient place that the Hales could have ever built it. It was hidden beneath Beacon Hills High School with the front cement sign being the primary entry way. So Derek now finds himself skulking about in the shadows waiting for the majority of the students and staff to clear out for the day so he can access the vault. It seemed like hours had passed when the whole front yard finally cleared of students and staff and he straightened his leather jacket before making his move. He reached the Cement Sign quickly and he had to time this just right so he could enter it undiscovered. He brandished the claws of his right hand and reached for the engraving that acted as a keyhole. However fate was a cruel mistress and often loved to toy with Derek for kicks. Just as he hooked his claws into the lock a small figure of a girl crashed face first into his firm and muscular chest that was thankfully clothed in a dark Green Henley. The girl looked up in surprise and confusion, her eyes widened and her mouth dropped in surprise and whether or not she intended to apologize or not did not occur. He used the time she was distracted to quickly retract his hand and shift it back to normal and he hoped she had not seen his claws. Derek cleared his own throat and shift his eyes from side to side in attempt to scan the area and thankfully there was no one else around. So he did the best thing he could do and charm his way out of the problem. He put on the blinding smile that was all teeth before speaking to the dazed girl and he reached out his left hand to steady her by gripping her shoulder as she looked like she might fall.

“I am so sorry, I should have looked where I was going, are you alright?”

Derek watched her carefully with a charming smile hiding the predator with in. The girl sighed and looked up at him when he actually spoke to her, and that’s when he saw the shock and realization enter her eyes. The girl recognized him from somewhere and he internally cursed at himself, he did not recognize her based on sight however there where other ways to figure out who she was and how she knew him. Derek exhaled sharply and breathed in through his nose and let her scent wash over his senses. At the core of her scent something tickled his nose and he scented the scent that Kira carried with her. The one difference about Kira and this girl was; where Kira smelt like the charged air before a storm, this girl smelt like a blaze waiting to run wild and he recoiled away from her. If she knew who he was truly and realized why he recoiled she would understand. Losing ones entire life to fire was never a good thing and it left its mark on Derek. However the blaze scented fox was not all he scented on the girl, he scented Lydia and a woman he assumed was Lydia and perhaps the both Lydia and the girl’s mother. He tilted his head and listened to her words as she said "I'm fine, thank you, I hope I didn't ruin my ego bumping into a solid thing like you." And she then smirked as she bit her lip and she was defiantly trying to taunt him or even dare him to go further and it would seem Lydia had a loose tongue. He would have to speak to her about privacy as he preferred to have his status as a werewolf left in the dark to people he did not know. She knew what he was and he now knew what she was now as he recognized what she was based on her scent. The girl – no Lydia’s sister then said "I better get going, Lydia will freak if I'm late home as I'm the one who cooks for her and Nat-mom." Which only confirmed what his nose told him. He rose an eyebrow as he heard her muttering more clearly then most would, thanks werewolf hearing. He did not know why Lydia’s sister would think that he would think he thought little of him knowing she was adopted. He practically adopted Isaac as a kid brother… but he threw that away and he should look into fixing the damage, maybe they could be pack again… just himself, Isaac and Cora. If they found Cora that is.

Lydia’s sister then gave him a gentle smile before looking at her watch and she frowned before picking up her bag quickly and slinging it onto her shoulder and she gripped her books securely in her arms before saying "I must go, I'm running late home. I'm so sorry that I have to leave." and she was very sincere in tone when she said that. With that said and done she looked up at Derek and flashed him a brave smile and then walked away as the wind whipped her hair around. He then gave a farewell of his own while she was still in earshot.

“Tell Lydia I said hello and let her know I need to speak to her as soon as possible”


Derek then would wait till Lydia’s sister was out of range and unsheathe his claws to unlock the vault. Twisting his claws in the engraving before retracting them and hearing the satisfying grinding of the cogs as the sign slid away to reveal the entry way to the Hale Vault and he descended in to the darkness and the sorrowful scent that smelt like home, family and pack.
