What the Hell is This? [Kahlee]

Peter gazed over at Kahlee after she panicked away and looked around. He watched her carefully, even after he spoke to her and told her about how the baby had awoken and wanted to be fed. She was still alarmed, quiet clearly. Her fear flowed off of her in waves, much as her emotions did when Peter was around her. Then again, he had no idea if that was what happened when he wasn’t around either, but he digressed. It wasn’t like it was something that he could ever test, but he figured he should train her a bit more to mask some of her emotions so that other wolves can’t sense her fear, her anger, or otherwise. But, that would be a lesson for another time.

It was silent before Kahlee finally spoke, telling Peter that she had been dreaming about her father. While she had spoken in a low tone, one that most people would need to strain to hear, Peter heard it perfect. He tried to keep his calm as he looked down at the baby in his arms. He looked off to the side and huffed angrily. The baby squirmed and Peter made sure to try and make him more comfortable. He couldn’t help but be upset. He disliked Kahlee’s father more than he disliked anyone…well…except for Kate Argent, but she was a special kind of crazy. Given the chance he would gleefully rip out her throat gain, this time, along with her spine.

Peter sighed gently before he looked over at Kahlee. ”You know he can’t hurt you anymore, right?” He asked, his tone less…arrogant than usual. His voice still soft and soothing but this Peter was…well…more fatherly in tone. He was more protective, caring, and a bit more vulnerable in this state. Something that no one had seen for quite a few years. Usually he’s filled with arrogance, pride, and sass, but right now he was trying to help the new girl in his life, the one that he would have adopted should she had been any younger. She was someone who had wormed her way in to Peter’s life and his heart, although if anyone asked he’d never admit it out loud…ever.

A gentle huff escaped Peter’s lips as Kahlee told him that her father could hurt her if he found her. Clearly, Peter didn’t think such a thing, but the girl. She did. He could tell from the way that she had spoken that she was fearful of her old man returning to cause her harm. Well him and other people, probably her brothers he was sure. Still, Peter kept those thoughts to himself. She didn’t need to be frightened. She didn’t need to worry about that happening. Peter supposed now was the time to man up and start showing Kahlee that he cared, even if, well that bothered him a bit. He couldn’t help it. He wasn’t overly fond of showing he cared. He only showed that to Cora…really…

Pushing that away, Peter looked over at Kahlee. She apologized saying that he didn’t have to worry about her and how the nightmares were common. That made Peter frown even more and he shook his head. ”You don’t need to apologize… It’s understandable. I know the feeling,” he explained to her, thinking about his family and the fire. The man had nightmares for months, years, but…being in a vegetative state made things difficult when you wanted to cope with what was going on in your head. At least Kahlee had him to talk to, Peter had no one when he was in Beacon Hills Memorial Hospital. All he had was himself, his thoughts, and all the horrors that he always saw in his head.

Peter ran a hand through his short hair, his arm still around the baby before he turned to Kahlee, his voice firm and his face emotionless. ”Also, he can’t. Do you want to know why? Because first he’d have to go through me and despite how you have more confidence in your father killing me, remember I’m not only a wolf, was an Alpha, have died once, and I’m far more conniving than he could ever think I am. He’d have to get through me, to get to you and I can assure you, he’d have to kill me first,” he told her before he looked down at little Jack, tickling him under his chin before he stood up and made his way into the kitchen to put the now empty bottle in the sink.

Notes; Awww, Peter

Peter stood beside the sink, placing the bottle inside of it after a moment before he looked down at the baby and realized that he had no way of opening this bottle in the sink. He sighed, pulling the bottle back out and holding it steady with the hand attached to the arm wrapped around the baby and twisted the top off before placing the top in the sink followed by the bottle part which he removed from his hand. He gently placed the hand against the baby’s feet, still holding on to him as he started to run hot, scratch that, extremely hot water into the sink. He placed the bottle under the water and thought about washing it, but to be honest, he had his hands full with the young one so he wouldn’t be able to do any actual washing, but he’d digress. He’d clean it to the best of his ability when he went to sleep and return it to Margaret so that she could properly clean and sterilize it. After all, he didn’t really have the proper equipment for something like that. He supposed he could use his vegetable steamer or something but he resisted until he knew if that was okay or not.

Not long after Peter made this decision did he feel Kahlee’s arms wrap around his middle. Immediately, Peter’s body responded instead of his mind. His entire body stiffened at her contact. Everything stiffened and remained tense. Every muscle was tensed, somewhat bulging , and this was clearly more of a physical response than a mental response. Peter’s wolf was doing most of the reacting. He wasn’t happy with this physical contact. In fact, it had been a long time since Peter had had any physical contact with anyone. Despite how most would think he was a womanizer, Peter hadn’t been with anyone since he had been on his date with Melissa McCall. Even then, he hadn’t been physical with her at all. He had dated her to get on Scott’s nerves, to pressure him in to being a member of his pack. Had it been the right thing? No, but hey, Scott’s mom was gorgeous so really, what was he going to lose?

The self-proclaimed Alpha listened as the girl told him that she didn’t want anyone to get hurt before she thanked him. Peter stood there a moment before he moved to the side, out of her grasp and twisting to the side so that he was facing her, hoping that that awkward hug would be left out of his thoughts. ”Don’t be foolish. I’ve been hurt many a time. I can assure you that whatever he can do to harm me isn’t as bad as what I’ve gone through in the past,” he stated before he gazed at her. He looked down to see baby Jack fast asleep, which he was surprised to see. He looked back up at Kahlee. ”If you’re at all hungry, there’s frozen dinners in the fridge. I’m afraid that’s all,” he told her before he moved away from her and towards the living area where he sat down on the couch with the adorable baby in his arms. After a moment, he paused. ”But before you do, can you come take Jack? I have something I need to do…”

It didn’t take long before Kahlee responded to Peter’s words about food. She asked him about living off of frozen food and he muttered to her sassily in response before she told him that she needed to take him out to get real food. Peter laughed shortly. ”You? Take me out to get food? Hilarious. You can’t even take care of yourself right now,” he responded sassily as he made his way into the living room, gazing over at the baby that was in his arms. He really needed to set up a little area that Jack could be in without hurting himself. It wasn’t long after that that Peter got an idea and called for Kahlee to hold the little tyke while he set up a new little play pen like area for the child, which would be nice since that way, Peter would have both of his arms free.

Kahlee entered the living room moments after that, taking Jack gently from the older werewolf. Peter flexed his arms a moment before he disappeared into his hallway, opening his closet. He grabbed blankets and pillows out of there before he made his way back into the living room. He found an empty corner of his apartment that he had been thinking about putting a bookshelf in, but he digressed and instead put down many layers of blankets before he set up pillows around the parimeter of the wall. Once that was done, he grabbed a few milk crates and set them down at the edge. Around them he placed layers and layers of blanket so that the baby wouldn’t hurt himself crawling around inside of it. Peter grinned, nodding his head at his work before he went and put the extra pillows and blankets he got back into his closet.

Once he returned, he gazed at his masterpiece before he looked over at Kahlee. ”What do you think?” He asked her as he gazed at it. Well, before he put Jack’s blanket in it as well as a few stuffed dinosaurs that his mother had put in his diaper bag. He stood back and looked it over again. ”I think it looks pretty good for a make shift, baby proof, play pen,” he muttered, nodding once again in approval.

Peter huffed a little under his breath when Kahlee stated that she could at least make her own meals. ”As can I,” he stated firmly. He was a little offended that Kahlee assumed he couldn’t make his own meals because of his frozen dinners. ”Did it ever occur to you that perhaps making meals is only for family occasions or that I’m too busy to make myself food?” He asked her curiously, still offended. His questions were, of course, rhetorical, but still. He felt the need to defend himself anyway. He couldn’t help it. He was a competent man…right? He deserved to at least have this one thing… Sure, frozen dinners weren’t the best but they were what he lived off of. After all, sometimes Derek called in a hurry and he needed to leave right at that very moment.

The man pursed his lips a bit, being more expressive in that moment than he had been in quite some time. He gently ran his hand along his face before he turned to Kahlee after he asked her about what she thought when it came to the newly assembled, makeshift play pen. There was a brief moment as the girl looked it over before she said that it looked good to her. Peter nodded his head, turning back to look at his handiwork. He had to admit, he was quite proud of himself. He didn’t think that he could ever make anything like this and yet here he was, looking over what he had created like an actual proud dad. He didn’t think that would ever be possible…ever…ins his life time.

Kahlee walked over to the makeshift play pen and gently laid down baby Jack. She moved some of the blankets to put over him before she placed his specific dinosaur blanket next to him close to his face. She looked up at Peter after he walked closer and smiled at him. She said that she didn’t think that it was a no and Peter nodded his head in response. He then looked back at the girl. She looked exhausted. ”Go back to your apartment. Get some sleep. You look like hell warmed over,” he told her, a small smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth. He turned away from her and headed back towards his laptop and stack of books and papers once more, sitting down at his kitchen table. She knew the way out, should she have felt like leaving.
