Hunting the Beta

It had really just been another night for Peter Hale. Another night that Peter was alone in his apartment. He had cooked himself dinner and was washing up when the power went out. The man looked around but thought nothing of it. His eyes flashed their usual stale blue before he turned and resumed doing the dishes. Just because the power was off didn’t mean that the water was. Once he finished doing the dishes, he set them in the drying rack to dry before he tucked his left overs into the fridge and looked around. He sighed, placing the washrag he had over his shoulder on his counter, folding it neatly before he grabbed a nearby match, walking around and lighting the few candles that he had in his home. He nodded his head, enjoying as the unscented candles lit up the living room of the apartment. Once comfortable, Peter sat down on the couch and opened one of the books he was reading through earlier with the intent to gather information for the pack.

Just as Peter was getting to the good stuff, someone kicked open his apartment. Door he looked up before letting out a loud yell as one of Chris Argent’s sonic devices went off in his small, yet spacious apartment. His hands went up to cover his ears and as they did so, he felt a searing pain through his upper right thigh. The deep growl that escaped his lips was enough to make the glass on his coffee table shake. He looked up at who was in his apartment and fury swelled in his body. Who was this little punk? Apparently one of the Argents. He would have a word with Chris later, assuming he didn’t spray this kid’s blood all over his walls. The first thing he hoped for was that Kahlee was safe. He hoped she was working since, well, she usually did work evenings. The second thing was that Margaret and little Jack were alright. While he could care less about the mother, the son was one that he babysat quite often and grew angry at the thought of the boy getting hurt because of a reckless new hunter.

Peter removed his hands from his ears just in time to hear the boy roar that it was time to answer for his crimes and Peter actually laughed, albeit painfully. The sonic noise hurt his ears, but it didn’t keep him from using his mouth, sassing the child.”Answer for my crimes? That’s a long list, boy. Do you have the whole thing, or just a part of it?” He asked, looking over at the young hunter. He switched between weapons as though it was something he needed to know, but had he been skilled enough, he would have kept with one weapon. Peter gripped the arrow in his leg before he ripped it out, growling again before he pushed himself over the back of his couch before the boy could get out a shot. ”Did you miss the part in your research where I came back to life once already?” He asked, grinning to himself behind the couch, watching the hole in his leg to see when he would heal. He watched as it did and sighed quite happily before his eyes flashed blue. If Peter hadn’t been trying to prove he was turning over a new leaf, he would rip out this boy’s throat…with his teeth.

Peter stayed behind the couch, trying to remain as focused as possible. The boy told him that he should have stayed dead. Peter snorted. Sometimes he thought the same thing. The boy then said that he was new to this before talking about the Wolfsbane in his system. Peter felt a snarl escape his lips before the boy mentioned his bleeding ears. Peter gently placed his fingers against his ear, feeling a sticky liquid. He growled a bit, his eyes flashing slate blue, improving his hearing and his eyesight. He heard the boy get off two more shots before hearing him walking along the floorboards. Peter did his best to move out from behind his couch and towards his bathroom door, trying to keep safe.

The boy complimented Peter on his home before saying that he could think of worse places that he deserved to die. Peter snorted a bit and ignored the pain that shot through his leg. He then spoke about Peter’s lost power before he mentioned how he was running and fighting instead of being an Alpha. Peter snorted once more. ”In case you didn’t know, I’m not an Alpha and I’m far more about survival than having a dick measuring contest with a barely legal hunter,” he stated as he cringed, the pain in his leg almost getting to be too much, but the wolf let out a growl and Peter’s eyes remained their electric blue. If he pushed him too far, Peter would be willing to either severely injure him or kill him.

Peter could feel the irritation and impatience coming off of Jeremy in waves. It let him know where the boy was. He made sure to keep his wolf eyes on so that he could see anything and everything that he wanted to see. He wanted to make sure that boy didn’t get the upper hand on him again. Fair fights were never probable in the real world, still, attacking someone in their own home? That was a new low even for Hunters. Especially one of Argent’s hunters. The only other hunter who had ever done anything like that was Kate and to be honest, Peter was more than willing to show this boy who had Alpha status, although with wolfsbane pulsing through his wounded leg and into his body, he wasn’t of use to anyone. Why he hadn’t been in the loft where Derek would find him was beyond him. That’s what he got for wanting a nice night in.

Sirens went off in the distance and to be honest, Peter had never thought he would ever be relieved by the sound, but he was. And man was he glad he exhaled instead of inhaled because in that next moment, a wolfsbane smoke bomb went off. How did he know? The damn gas was purple. Peter breathed out, making sure to hold his breath so none of the wolfsbane got into his lungs. He didn’t need to hallucinate as he died. That wasn’t exactly what he wanted but he digressed. Peter heard the hunter’s gun go off four times and his windows shatter, which was good. It meant that soon the wolfsbane would be out of his apartment, which meant that he needed to get to his powered wolfsbane stash. He crawled into his bathroom and opened the bottom door to his cupboard and pulled out a small bottle. He poured some of it on the counter above him and pulled a lighter from his pocket, always handy.

Just as the boys shouted that this wasn’t over, Peter mentally agreed, lighting the wolfsbane aflame so it turned into a sparkler. No it’s not, he snarled in his head as he pulled the powder into his hand and forced it into the wound where the arrow had been, snarling angrily and crying out at the pain. He heard a cry of pain and sat up, his body healing itself. He stood up, finding enough energy at least for that, and limped his way down the hall. He looked in surprise at seeing his neighbor in the doorway, a gash against his cheek and a knife in the wall in the hallway. Peter turned towards the window, his eyes narrowing before he limped to his neighbor to see if he was okay, making a mental note to keep that kid’s scent locked away so he could hunt him down later.
