Nice Digs

The Hale House was quiet, well, the new Hale House was quiet. After it had been rebuilt, Peter moved himself back in, trying his best to get furniture close to the original, but not everything was still made anymore. So, he did what he could and replaced it with his own furniture from his apartment. It had been sad to see it go, but for the moment he was pleased to be back in his home. It was still a bit lonely when he walked into the house and there was no one there to greet him. The first time he did it, he had been filled with sadness. No little cousins, nieces, or nephews came to greet him at the door, Talia wasn’t smiling at him from in the kitchen. Laura wasn’t screaming at Derek for being a little snot. It was the little things that he missed and that he would always miss.

Still, after a few days, Peter got better and every time he returned home from whether it be his new job as a sous chef at Bella Italia, or babysitting Jack, he didn’t think about it sadly so much as longing. Peter missed his family, yes, but he didn’t dwell on his sadness too much. He much rather preferred to think of the happy times and the good times and laugh at them fondly, including but not limiting to every time Cora pounced on him for practice when he returned home from where ever he had gone. To the store, for a walk, or whatnot. She had always liked him, as had Laura. Derek hadn’t always been too fond of Peter, but that was just the way it was.

Just as Peter was thinking about taking a nap, he heard the doorbell ring and smelled something that hadn’t hit his senses in quite sometime. His eyebrows raised a moment before he approached the door, albeit cautiously. Things didn’t always turn out well when people returned to Beacon Hills, as he had learned with Morgan Stilinski, but he wouldn’t think about him until later on. Instead, he opened the door to his home and paused, gazing at the girl. “Kahlee?” He asked quietly before he grinned brightly and moved forward. In a rather un-Peter Hale-like fashion, he wrapped his arms around her and picked her up a little, swinging her about. Her being there meant she was alive and those two bastards hadn’t gotten to her.

Peter had no doubt that he probably looked like a mad man, but he didn’t care. He was quite happy that his puppy had returned from where ever in the world she had been. She hadn’t been gone that long but Peter didn’t like that he had made a connection with the one person in Beacon Hills who believed she had to run away to protect him and the rest of the town from her crazy father and the insane guy who wanted to be her mate. The thought still upset the Omega werewolf, but he digressed and focused on the good, which was that Kahlee May Ford had returned.

The werewolf pulled away from the girl and set her down on his porch as spoke to him, greeting him before she complimented his new home. He chuckled a bit. “Well, I got a job so I had a little more money to put into this place,” he stated as he turned and looked at it before he moved out of the doorway and motioned for her to enter. “Please,” he stated, more than a little happy that she had returned. The two had a lot to catch up on, more on her side than on his. Life had been a little boring for the oldest Hale, but he digressed.

The Omega werewolf pouted at his friend as she said that she couldn’t imagine him working. “Well that’s just rude because I do have a job and I’m quite good at it. I’m a sous chef at that new Bella Italia restaurant in town,” he told her, quite proud of himself. The man could cook, not that anyone allowed him that. He was sure many would sully his good name despite the fact that he actually was quite good at cooking. He had made many a meal for the Hale family before the fire and he quite remembered his sister and the rest of the family enjoyed his cooking, but he digressed.

It wasn’t long before Kahlee made her way into the home, looking around before she removed her shoes, leaving them by the door. She said that she liked the home and that it was nice. She asked him how long he had lived there since the landlady in the apartment building missed him. He laughed a bit. “Not for too long. I moved in about a month ago, I suppose, as soon as I could once the house was done.” He told her before he shrugged. “I don’t know how or why she could miss me, I’m there at least once a week to babysit Jack,” he muttered, shaking his head. Women confused him, regardless of age.

The Omega werewolf supposed that he had been acting a bit like a spoiled brat from time to time when it came to money and things of that nature, but to be honest, it got bored when no one came to you for help. It got bored when your only friend vanished for a year and to be honest, it got boring when all you did was get hit on by the kid your babysitting’s mother. It wasn’t as though the man needed the money, but he needed something to do so he took the job as the sous chef after showing off his skills and apparently they liked what they saw.

Peter huffed. ”Damn right I can cook,” he muttered, pouting a little as Kahlee continued to look around his living room. She said that she saw Jack this morning and how he big he had gotten. Peter nodded his head. “Yeah, he’s started calling me P.J. Not sure how much I like it, but it’s better than P.P.,” he stated with a little wrinkle of his nose. He hadn’t been too fond of that nickname and as such remedied it by having the boy call him P.J. It was easier that way and far less embarrassing when out in public. Normally Peter would keep something like that to himself, but this was Kahlee, and despite how she would make fun of him, he would be able to take it.

Peter watched as the girl sat down on his sofa before he walked around and sat in his large sofa chair, his favorite chair to be honest. It was the only one he used. He only used the couch for naps or guests. She then spoke, making him chuckle as she said that she never said he couldn’t cook. He nodded his head almost in defiance before she smiled at him. He had to admit, he had missed her, whether it was her sass or just her presence. She understood him and didn’t hold him responsible for his past deeds. It was pleasant to have around since, well, almost everyone else seemed to make him feel that way.

It wasn’t long before Kahlee commented on PJ. She asked why he called her that and he looked at her a moment. “My middle name starts with a J. My mother and my sister used to call me P.J.” He told her, his reasoning simple. Kahlee then told him that Jack hadn’t spoken all that much when he was there and only said “mommy” and “look.” Peter chuckled. “P.J. is short and simple. Kahlee may be a bit more complicated,” he reasoned for the little man, sure that that was one of the reasonings. Well, that and the fact that he hadn’t seen her in almost a year.

When Kahlee stated that she had no idea that he even had a middle name, Peter almost fell over. He looked at her like she was insane. She said that if he carried on, he may even have as many names as her. He stuck his tongue out at her. ”For your information, Peter Jacob Hale is the only name I need,” he stated, huffing a little at the girl. Although to others it would look like he was being an immature punk, he knew that Kahlee would see that he was joking and was playing. It was like watching two pups fight. You never knew if they were really fighting until things got extremely serious. Although he doubted any fights between him and Kahlee would ever be considered even remotely serious.

Kahlee told Peter that Jack tried to call her “Kay” when she was there but it came out as something else when he tugged on her arm to show her the firetruck. Peter laughed. “Ah yes, he does love that firetruck. It’s his favorite toy, at least for this month. Last month it was Mr. Rex,” he told her, grinning. Babysitting Jack made Peter think about the fact that one day he would like his own children, but that would need to wait…a long time, especially since he didn’t even have a woman in his life to want to have children with. That part in itself would make things a tad bit difficult for him, among other things. Plus side, he had a house already so there was that.

Peter gazed at the girl, head tilted to the side as she told him that he was lucky. He chuckled and shook his head before he relaxed back into his chair. She then told him that Jack was still a baby and he loved all of his toys, he just preferred to love his toys in a cycle, like any child did. ”Touche,” he stated as he looked over at the girl was currently resting on his couch. He grinned a little before he realized something and immediately stood up from his chair. “Would you like anything to eat or drink?” He asked her, momentarily remembering his manners before he made his way towards his pristine and clean kitchen, listening for her to respond as he grabbed himself a glass of ice water. He needed to ask her what she had been up to but he had a feeling that he knew what she had been up to.
